Whereas gameplay settings in Campaign mode are predetermined, they are completely customizable to the player in Racebox mode. As the player progresses from easier events to harder ones, tracks and teams are unlocked for use in the separate Racebox mode, in which players can play one-off arcade-style races, either in single-player or two player split-screen modes.

Graphic equalizers appear on the race course and in the surrounding scenery, displaying waveforms for the currently playing audio track.Įach race type can be found in the single-player Campaign mode, which is a series of 87 different race scenarios. The environments are stripped of texture and are replaced by simple colour palettes that change as the player reaches new zones. The audio/visual atmosphere during Zone mode differs greatly from regular play. As the player's craft automatically passes through higher "zones", or categories of speed, the player must continue to navigate the course until their energy runs out and the craft explodes. Finally, the unique Zone mode, first introduced in Wipeout Fusion, automates the player's acceleration control, progressively moving the craft at higher speeds.

In the Speed Lap and Time Trial modes, the player races alone in an attempt to beat the clock. Single Race is a straight-forward start-to-finish race against seven other competitors, while Tournament is a series of consecutive races won by having the highest aggregate score. There are five main race types in Wipeout HD: Single Race, Tournament, Speed Lap, Time Trial, and Zone. The player pilots an anti-gravity craft, selected from one of several teams and, depending on the game mode, competes using speed and weaponry in an attempt to beat the competition. Gameplay is largely similar to that of previous Wipeout titles. My previous WipEout experience was just WipEout Pulse and I feel like the handling in Pulse is closer to 2048 than it is to HD/Fury so maybe that’s why my experience is different than yours.Official logo of the FX350 Anti-Gravity Racing League That extra dimension of having to manage your pitch made HD/Fury much more difficult for me. Especially the vertical pitch which I never had to worry about much in 2048. The physics in HD/Fury just feels so much floatier and like I need to control every aspect of the ship. Eventually I got them all but it definitely took me far more tries than 2048 Elite Passes. In HD/Fury it was a real struggle to get many of the later Hard-level Gold badges. Even the A+ challenges in 2048 weren’t that bad although I may have had to try 4 or 5 times for some of them. I easily Elite Passed almost everything in the 2048 campaign on my first or second try (besides one challenge which took me 50+ attempts it was a super short Eliminator challenge on Subway I think).
